Winter Fly-fishing Home

The Wood River valley has more than it's share of great outdoor opportunities. None the least of which is world class skiing. But for those of you who do not ski, or you just need to rest those skiing legs, the winter fly-fishing in the Sun Valley area is fantastic. The Wood River is the closest choice and one of the better winter fisheries. The Big Lost is also in a days reach. Most of the fishing is nymphing with small midge nymphs but on occasion you can get into hatches of midges and Baetis. The warmer days that bring the afternoon temps above freezing can be exceptional. Good fishing usually begins around 11 in the morning and ends about 3 in the afternoon. Perfect for a few powder turns followed by an afternoon of light fly-tackle trout fishing. You will find the fish in slower water gathering as much heat as they can to sustain them through colder winter nights. Expect them to be very spooky in the lower water of winter but a little more forgiving in their quest for food. This trip is offered at a discounted rate since the time frame is shorter. A good choice for beginners.
